Do you watch your favorite Netflix show, cook a meal or read just a good book? Here are some book recommendations from some of our Intuit® ProConnect™ Tax Pro Center authors. Enjoy! David Bergstein CPA, CITP, CGMA – Intuit “I am a magazine man, so if you ask me what’s on my night table, I will say a pile of magazines from the Journal of Accountancy to Fast Company, and everything in between. But, in reality, I have a tablet on the night table and read from there since my Kindle app is there. I read to stay up to date on technology and taxes.” Stacy Kildal – StacyKAcademy.com The Atlantis Plague (The Origin Mystery, Book 2) by A.G. Riddle: “I just spent 2016 reading the entire 26-book Prey series by John Sandford, as well as his Kidd series, along with a few non-fiction books. The Atlantis Gene (Book 1) popped up while browsing in Kindle Prime, so I grabbed it, and now I can’t NOT finish the series.” Debra Kilsheimer – Behind the Scenes Financial Services Colossus: The Turbulent, Thrilling Saga of the Building of Hoover Dam by Michael Hiltzik: “Every time I’m in Las Vegas, I tour the Dam. It’s so impressive and to think it was done so long ago! I love learning all about it. When a tax return seems difficult, I just think ‘it’s not as challenging as building the Dam’ … and I keep plugging!” Mariette Martinez, EA – Mariette F. Martinez, EA Accounting for the Numberphobic: A Survival Guide for Small Business Owners by Dawn Fotopulos: “The author uses visual stories and analogies to simplify and beautify the complex concept of financial statements. It’s brilliant and creative writing on the complex topic of embracing your financials. I recommend this book to every small business client I engage with.” Marty McCutchen, CPA – Marty McCutchen, CPA P.C. The Bible: “It gives my guidance and wisdom for everyday life.” Jackie Meyer, CPA, CTC, MSA – Meyer Tax Consulting LLC Good Health, Good Life: 12 Keys to Enjoying Physical and Spiritual Wellness by Joyce Meyer: “We just had our second child while ramping into busy season, so I’m trying to get back in shape physically and prepare myself mentally!” David Oransky, CPA/PFS, CFP®, RLP® – Laminar Wealth LLC How to Think About Money by Jonathan Clements: “One of the best personal finance books I’ve ever read. It’s very approachable for the novice, yet packed with wisdom for the expert. A must read for all.” Andrew Poulos, EA, ABA, ATP – Poulos Accounting & Consulting, Inc. The Exceptional Presenter: A Proven Formula to Open Up and Own the Room by Timothy J. Koegel: “I am reading this book in hopes of obtaining the knowledge and skills to become a better speaker and presenter. Being a speaker and a news media contributor, it’s important to be a great presenter so that you can convey information to the audience efficiently and effectively.” MB Raimondi, CPA.CITP – QuickBooks Trainer/Consultant CPA “I don’t have a special book. I go with any easy reader that has somewhat of a plot. Some of my favorite authors include Emily Giffin, Ayelet Waldman and Susan Meissner.” T. Steel Rose, CPA – CPA Magazine The Princess Bride by S. Morgenstern: “I loved the movie – my whole family does. It’s crazy to learn that it took 10 years before Hollywood would produce it.” Robert Westley, CPA/PFS – Northern Trust The Undoing Project: A Friendship That Changed Our Minds by Michael Lewis: “I have been interested in learning more about behavioral economics – the psychology behind financial decision making. This book tells the story of Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky, whose work created the field of behavioral economics.” Joe Woodard – Woodard™ The Circle by Dave Eggers: “It was recommended to me by a good friend who said, ‘It is stuck in my head … in a good way.’” Me? Most of the time, I read long books that are on the bestseller lists, but favor thrillers, especially Stephen King. Right now, I’m reading Michael Chabon’s Moonglow. I love the way he writes, and he is very good with character development. What book is on your nightstand? Leave a comment and tell us!
