We recently sat down with Javier to learn more about his background, his practice and the Tax Customer Council. ProConnect: Tell us about your practice. Javier Amezcua: Integro offers business and tax consulting services, while Guerrero, Jimenez, Diaz & Co. LLP, a CPA firm owned by its individual partners, offers audit and attest services. Together, through an alternative practice structure with independent and separate legal entities, we serve clients in a wide range of services. Along with my partners, Celso Tomas Jimenez and Victor Manuel Diaz, we offer the benefits of years of experience gained from previous positions with Fortune 500 and multinational companies, including Costco, Ingram-Micro, Sempra, Fox Television, Televisa S.A., and several Big Four accounting firms in the United States and Mexico. We have been in business since 2003. We also offer a host of specialty services to cater to the unique needs of our clients with bi-national operations in Mexico. This encompasses U.S. companies with operations in Mexico and U.S. subsidiaries of Mexico-based companies. Our partners, managers and associate accountants serve a wide range of individuals, corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and non-profit organizations, and are experts in the accounting issues and tax laws that impact or clients. Our commitment to our clients is measured by self-imposed standards of excellence: professionalism, confidentiality, timeliness, accessibility and a positive attitude. ProConnect: Why is the ProConnect Tax Customer Council important to the profession? JA: The Council allows professionals in the field to influence the updates of software, calculators and the creation of new applications, and provides feedback to accountants of technological advances and the direction of the industry. ProConnect: What’s your favorite part of being a part of the Council? JA: Being part of the Council is a privilege and a commitment to quality; my favorite part is brainstorming to align the needs and goals of the software to tax accountants. ProConnect: What kind of Intuit software do you use? JA: Intuit ProConnect Tax Online, Lacerte®, QuickBooks® Online Accountant, QuickBooks Desktop and Mint. ProConnect: What are your goals for your practice this year? JA: We want to provide our clients a proactive tax preparation service with projection or planning for 2019. ProConnect: What was your very first job? JA: I was a bank teller. ProConnect: Who is your favorite author? JA: Gregg Braden, because his scientific research and knowledge applied to spirituality creates wisdom. ProConnect: If you were stranded on a desert island with access to just one kind of technology, what would it be, and why would you want it? JA: Solar power because it would provide electrical energy to produce and create everything one needs to survive. ProConnect: How can tax professionals keep up with all the changes in tax laws and regulations? JA: The old fashioned way is to research the law while preparing the tax returns. However, I think a faster way would be to obtain the changes in the law directly from your tax software. In addition, it would be of great value to have a transcript of the client prior to preparing the return to minimize the chances for audit. ProConnect: Thanks, Javier!
