Latest Email Phishing Scam Targets Intuit Customers

Intuit® has learned of a new email phishing scam that accountants and tax professionals should know about to ensure they help protect their firms’ and clients’ personal and professional information.

Please be aware that the “from” address as well as the subject line may change; however, the content within the body of the email will stay the same with the exception of a change to the malicious URL link, which may have many different variations. Here’s an example of what the email could look like:

Intuit recommends that tax professionals and their clients do not to click on any links or attachments or reply to the email. The email should be deleted from any systems.

If you have already downloaded something from a link in a phishing email:

• Delete anything you may have downloaded.
• Scan your system using an up-to-date anti-virus program from a respected security vendor, such as McAfee Anti-Virus, Norton by Symantec, or Microsoft Windows Defender, to remove any viruses or other malware that may infect your computer. Some of these vendors also offer free online security tools. Some malware will require stronger measures to remove from your system. You may want to seek help from a trusted IT consultant or a systems repair firm.
• Change your password(s), particularly those involving financial information, to prevent unauthorized users from logging into your accounts.
